Crysis 2: Previews, Animation Tech, Gun Design Talk |
|
GamesRadar US got to play the Crysis 2 Grand Central Terminal demo that was running on a PC but with Xbox 360 settings. The preview contains a few nice details on gameplay and the Aliens. Check out the article here.
There are now a couple of previews hinting towards a radical change to the environment happening at some point during the course of Crysis 2; similar to the one encountered in Crysis. The previews in question come from Official Xbox Magazine and IGN.
Develop Online reports that the impressive-looking non-player character animations we saw in the GDC 2010 trailer is the result of Crytek using ANT Engine (ANimation Toolkit) for Crysis 2. ANT is the same engine used for making more natural animations for EA Sports titles.
Not exactly Crysis 2 -related, but here goes: Pascal Eggert is a gun enthusiast who designs video game guns for a living at Crytek. Pascal has made an intriguing guest post over at The Firearm Blog in which he discusses about the relation between video game and real guns. Should be of interest to you gaming gun nuts out there. Also worth checking out is Pascal's impressive website, located here.

E3 2010: Crysis 2 Awarded by 1UP and GameSpy |
|
On June 14-17 at the Electronic Entertainment Expo Crytek demonstrated Crysis 2 Xbox 360 gameplay for the public on several occasions and (supposedly) the PC version for the press only. Crytek's upcoming first-person shooter Crysis 2 has brought Crytek several E3 "Best of" awards and nominations as well. The multiplatform sequel to Crysis impressed GameSpy so much that the site awarded it for Best Shooter, Best Graphics and Best 3D Experience.
Crytek also demonstrated Crysis 2 in 3D at the event and it seems that the stereoscopic 3D implementation of CryEngine 3/Crysis 2 is truly a sight to behold since it got Crytek Best 3D awards from 1UP and the aforementioned GameSpy. For those curious about how much 3D will "slow the game down", so to speak, Crytek CEO and president Cevat Yerli stated in a recent interview with VideoGamer, that the performance hit from enabling stereoscopic 3D in Crysis 2 is only 1.5%.

Crysis 2: 'Marine Salvage' Trailer |
|
EA and Crytek have released a new Crysis 2 Xbox 360 gameplay trailer. Most of the gameplay footage shown is practically a repeat of the New York City Grand Central Terminal material shown at E3 2010 but presented in a hectic yet stylishly cinematic fashion. Quick bits and pieces of previously unseen melee moves and other combat action can be seen here and there.
Thanks to PhilB for the tip!

E3 2010: G4TV Q&A Reveals New Crysis 2 Story Details |
|
Crytek CEO and co-founder Cevat Yerli has revealed some new Crysis 2 story elements in G4TV's E3 2010 video interview. We already know that Crysis 2 is a reboot of the franchise with some continuity of Crysis and that the story happens three years after the events in Crysis 1. Crysis 2 will introduce a new cast and some oldtimers from Crysis will reappear, with Prophet being one of them, but, in Cevat's words, the fictions are decoupled.
In 2023, having been buried deep inside the earth, the aliens are awakening underneath New York and everywhere in the world causing worldwide martial law situations. This explains the huge alien spikes coming from below the streets and causing massive destruction, as seen in the gameplay clips and in the 3D trailer.
We will be playing as a soldier named Alcatraz who inherits Nanosuit 2.0 to become a supersoldier with the main objective to save New York: save New York, save the rest of the world. Some unofficial reports have stated that Alcatraz actually hijacks Nanosuit 2.0 and Crynet Systems, dominant technology provider to all the top military powers, goes after the player in an effort to retrieve the suit.
That was all that Cevat was willing to reveal at this stage. After this information, one can't help noticing that the story of Crysis 2 bears a striking resemblance to War of the Worlds.
