Crysis Warhead FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Please read inCrysis' rules first.
What is Crysis Warhead?
Crysis Warhead is a first person shooter developed exclusively for PC by Crytek Budapest. It is the second title in the Crysis franchise. It uses an optimized and improved version of Crytek's CryEngine 2. Here we commonly refer Crysis Warhead only as Warhead and the original Crysis simply as Crysis. To avoid confusion, I'll do so in this FAQ too.
What is the story of Warhead?
In Warhead you play as Sergeant Sykes, better known as Psycho. You experience Psycho's parallel story during the events of the original game. Your mission is to investigate what the Koreans are up to on the other side of the island. As the name "Psycho" implies, Sykes is crazier and more straightforward than Nomad (from Crysis). During the game you get to knew Psycho better as well as get more information about what is happening on the island. The game takes place between Crysis' Assault (the map where you attack the harbor) and Reckoning (aircraft carrier level).
Was Warhead developed by the same company who did Crysis?
Warhead was developed by Crytek Budapest, a sister company of Crytek Frankfurt which developed Crysis.
When was Warhead be released?
Warhead was released in the year 2008 on September 12th in Europe and on September 16th in North America.
What platforms are Warhead available for?
PC only.
Is there a demo?
Warhead does not have a demo but you can try Crysis Demo.
What are the system requirements of Warhead?
Here are the official minimum system requirements:
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 2.8 GHz (3.2 GHz for Vista), Intel Core 2.0 GHz (2.2 GHz for Vista), AMD Athlon 2800+ (3200+ for Vista) or better
RAM: 1GB (1.5GB on Windows Vista)
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (Radeon X800 Pro for Vista) or better
VRAM: 256MB of Graphics Memory
Storage: 15GB
Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c Compatible
ODD: DVD-ROM
OS: Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or Microsoft Vista
DirectX: DX9.0c or DX10
Crysis should give you some idea of how well you can run it. If you don't own Crysis you can try the demo. Please keep in mind that Warhead's engine is improved and more optimized so it should run better.
Does Warhead some sort of copy protection?
Yes, more infomation is found on the Crysis Warhead Copy Protection FAQ.
Is Warhead an expansion pack?
No, Warhead is a stand-alone game and doesn't need Crysis to run.
Is Warhead a sequel to Crysis?
No, Crysis: Warhead is a parallel story with a different main character. Crysis 2 is a sequel to Crysis. (Link to Crysis 2 FAQ).
What new features does Warhead have compared to Crysis?
1. Singleplayer:
Warhead has a completely new singleplayer with new maps and parallel story. Warhead is generally more explosive and intense than the original, which better suits the character of Psycho. Warhead will also offer more freedom in achieving objectives throughout the game. Gameplay differs slightly from Crysis. For example, in Warhead you are a little slower but you can carry more ammo and grenades.
Singleplayer is estimated to last around 8-10 hours.
2. New weapons:
AY-69 Dual SMG (pic 1, pic 2)
The AY-69 is a close combat weapon with high damage output on short range. Due to its high fire rate but low accuracy its preferred operational areas are urban environments and inside buildings. Once picked up the weapon replaces the SOCOM hand gun by allocating the first weapon slot in the players’ inventory.
FGL-40 Grenade Launcher (pic)
FGL is short for "Floyd's Grenade Launcher". This baby is a hand-held grenade launcher. It can shoot explosive grenades or EMP grenades that, for example, temporarily disable important nanosuit functions and the aliens' exosuits.
New explosives
The singleplayer has new explosive types that weren't available in the singleplayer of the first game. These are Anti-tank mines, claymore anti-personnel mines and EMP grenades (which disables aliens and nanosuits). These were available in Crysis multiplayer but not in the singleplayer.
3. New vehicles:
Hovercraft
Works similarly and looks a little like the hovercraft from Crysis.
Armored Scout Vehicle (ASV) (pic 1, pic 2)
The ASV is a light armored vehicle. It is fast on the road but also provides enough protection against attacks from light enemy fire. Be sure to avoid tank shells as they will likely cause heavy damage. The ASV comes in two versions: anti-infantry and anti-vehicle.
1. Anti-Infantry ASV
The ASV in its Anti-Infantry edition comes with a highly advanced mounted mini gun which has an extremely high fire rate and is ideal to be used against any kind of personnel or vehicles with no armor improvements. Due to its low accuracy the mounted weapon is ideal for close to mid-range combat situations.
2. Anti-Vehicle ASV
Anti-Vehicle ASV shoots slower than its anti-infantry relative but is more effective against vehicles.
4. Multiplayer:
Crysis: Wars F.A.Q.
5. CryEngine 2 and general improvements:
- Optimization: runs faster than Crysis on the same settings.
- New Global Ambient Lighting system that improves how lights and shadows interact to better show off normal mapping and shaders.
- Denser and more intense particle effects.
- Human and alien AI has been improved. Especially the alien AI has got much love.
- Computer-controlled enemies (AI) will react faster and more fluidly, and the Warhead engine will allow for up to 40 Artifical Intelligence units on the screen simultaneously.
Does Warhead multiplayer use Games for Windows - LIVE or GameSpy?
GameSpy.
I finished the singleplayer. What now?
You can play it again but this time using a different play style. For example, if you played through it guns blazing, why don't you try being a sneaky predator this time?
If singleplayer doesn't interest you anymore, you can play Crysis Wars online.

Updated features + some others.

actually the ea site for crysis : warhead says 16 sept as release date
Offline
All of the official EA sites on my bookmarks show "TBA" or no date at all, and, even if there was a date, it would just be a placeholder one. The real release date will be the one that is announced.
We'll add the date to the FAQ when it has been announced by EA and Crytek.

I hope Psycho doesn't go running around without his head gear like in the original.
On the same note, do ya think we'll get to see Nomad without his mask and visor?

Maybe add this:

Hey Mocib,
the quality setting ingame depends on the location IGN has recorded the videos from. The show floor PC runs the game on the "enthusiast" detail setting which is still not the highest available setting.
For instance the Gamespot video is being shown on the "Gamer" setting which is the average one.

The graphical setting names that is ![]()
Edit:
I think it's like this:
VERY HIGH: ??
HIGH: ENTHUSIAST
MEDIUM: GAMER
LOW: ???

If the one being showed by Gamespot was on medium, than they've done a damn good job making it look like it's on high.

There's nothing to add since we don't know the full detail settings list.

Crysis Wars FAQ.
I think it'll better if it's not in the same page as Warhead, since it's considered more standalone, with a name and all ![]()

You should add:
Will Crysis: Warhead be backwardscompatible with modifications for Crysis?
And a logical answer.
It's a question that many asks, and probably will ask.
