Discussion of Crytek's Crysis games

Hi.
This is my first post, but not my first attempt at machinima.
However, this one I wanted to share with the rest of you. I think it is one of the first Crysis machinima films, is it?
But calling it "film" would be much. It's not really a film but more of a montage with meaning. Since Sandbox2 is a pain in dealing with characters, after three hours into it I dropped it all. However I pushed on going with my newest machinima attempt and finished it.
The thing I'm proud of is the audio. It does NOT use game assets. It is all "hand made", as you put it. From my personal archives and the net, I gathered bits and pieces and tried to make a whole.
I could provide a more detailed account as to what the workflow was but I doubt you'd find it interesting.
Enjoy.

P.S. The video can be made available in High Definition, since I shot it at 1920x1200 and edited it at 1280x720. Just direct me to a host. ![]()

not bad but you sure could've got more fps if it weren't with that crazy high resolution, it's very good but a bit laggy.

on my computer, at 1920x1200 with settings on v.high (not ultra) it works at about 30-35 FPS. However, the capturing software used got the FPS down to about 15-20 FPS. Also, viewing it in YouTube doesn't help. Some effects on the video and audio are lost due to YouTube. If the site wants to host the High Definition version, I would be glad to upload it.
This video took all night, but I am thinking about working on a new one... and animating the characters (which is a pain, as I said) too. It would take a lot of work but a 6 - 10 minute narrative could be great, even the start of a series. Although, if people don't watch it, I may never do it since it's a lot of work...

Nice man, hopefully you can find a place to host the HiDef version...how about just zip it up and put it in filefront?

TEver think about trying the capture_frames command (spelling?) it will take whats on screen and record it at 30 or 90 fps it you desire by splitting everything a frame at a time, you then can put the frames together (using a specific program) and they look like a SUPERSMOOTH 60 fps. Ask someone here if you want to know more, or google. it.
BTW it's how most of those video's done in Sandbox 2 using like 10,000 or so barrels and boxes to showcase physics, the ACTUAL framerate was unplayable and unrecordably low, but with that capture_frames command, it looks silky smooth.
The reason i suggest this is because the smoothness of the video really ADDS to the fluidity and makes it look surreal almost what you're watching at no matter what uber-high Framerate you decide to capture in. And also because i'd love (along with everyone else) to see something look like it's running 60 fps and be a really cool film to watch with amazing content and film directing to go along with it.
You'd be the first and that'd be BIG. Good Luck , i hope you take my suggestions to heart and consider them good enough to be of use! ![]()

Be patient and learn how to use Sandbox 2. There is soon going to be a time where nobody is even going to bother to watching Crysis machinima that have been made in-game as opposed to in Sandbox 2 and Trackview.

Thank you for watching everyone.
Yes, I will use the capture_frames command, thanks for the advice.
Also, Sandbox 2 is fine to use, just the character animation part is the one that's painful to use. I will be working on another video soon.

Can I have the HD version please? I'd host it for you if you want.
Edit: Depending on how big it is ![]()

Ben, the HD version is about 230 MB. It's DivX 6 encoded with 6000kbps data rate and MP3 audio. It's at 1280x720. Please mail me about the details to send it, since I can't afford the bandwidth to make it public.
If you decide to host it, I guess anyone who wants it can download the HD version.

Stage6.com is the ONLY place to upload good game videos. I can't believe anyone still uploads to ShitTube.

Stage6 is great for playback but it's an absolute disaster when it comes to uploading stuff. I have still yet to get a working video up, and this is after trying to get my validation email for 3 months for registration.

Cool, that's nice! The bottle throws seem kind of gay.

Defintely get it up on Stage6! Once you get your account sorted out, maybe someone else over at Crymod with a Stage6 account can lend you a temporary distribution/viewing slot for you're HD version of the finished/polished video?
Go head over to Crymod.com and ask the community in the forums, post up what ever video you have currently, (the YouTube one i presume) and they will adress you're please nicely. There are alot of kind people there who I'm sure without a doubt would love to lend a hand to someone working on Sandbox 2 as hard as them. ![]()
I wish you luck, I'd love to see HD Crysis machinima's out.

I don't mean to be offensive, 2 Bad, but you are going to need to learn to do it if you want to get anywhere in Crysis machinima. Since this is the first machinima to be released, it's going to be viewed as something incredibly creative and groundbreaking when in reality it's not. The people who are raving about this are either people who reject conventional filmmaking, and that's their perogative, and naive viewers who don't know better about what this engine can do and what other machinimas are out there. I have also observed ALOT of "eye candy" shorts popping up now that this is released, since this is so publicized right now (relatively), everyone thinks it's the latest "thing", when in reality mainstream audiences REALLY don't want to be seeing stuff like this.
As I've told these Crysis machinima makers, you all have talent, but need to focus on using the tools Crytek has given you instead of letting it's advanced nature limit you into creating what are essentially just technology demos with some visual filters and classical music (and in the case of another "eye candy" film that is planned, Nomad walking around a barren level with a red-tinted TOD fighting an alien). It took me 2-3 weeks but I figured Sandbox 2 and it's animation out with some help from amateur modders. Be patient. Learn the tools. If people are actually amazed by this then their world is going to be shocked by what machinima makers are going to come up with soon.
