Discussion of Crytek's Crysis games

Maximum PC magazine published a technologically concentrated Crysis interview with Crytek CEO and President Cevat Yerli on their October 2007 issue. Below is a short summary of the main topics from the one-page interview. Thanks to littlecheez9 for this!
- The game physics in Crysis will be handled by the CPU only so there will be no GPU or PhysX PPU aided physics acceleration.
- What comes to digital distribution Crysis will not be available on services such as Steam but on EA Link (EA Store).
- Crysis is highly optimized for both single-core and multi-core CPUs.
- The benefit from having multi-core CPUs will only be better performance i.e. higher and smoother frame rates.
- Cevat believes that GeForce 8800 GTS or Radeon 2900 will be good for running Crysis at 1280 resolutions on maximum settings but for 1600x1200 or higher you'll need faster hardware.

Yeah, I got that issue of Maximum PC a while ago, its a short 1 page article.

yeah that's number 47 ![]()

Good to hear ![]()
I'll keep the res down and the sets up ![]()

I saw the mag at Barnes and Noble yesterday, didn't look at it and I should've bought it.
Might go back later.

^What the point, the news has been posted, and the article was not that big, but by this info, I guess an ATI Radeon HD X2600XT 512MB will run Crysis well.

Ahh that's a relief. Reading past interviews I somehow got the impression that an 8800GTS would barely run it at all, let alone on max settings. Can't wait to see how it looks on my GTX. ![]()

Well we know what hardware can max Crysis, but what hardware can max out Crysis?

i can now sleep at night knowign that my 8800gts will run max at 1280x1024

Nice to hear ![]()

Nice. I can sleep good now until the demo arrives!

Ok, but was he talking about the DX9 or DX10 version?

Good thing my 8800 GTS overclocks to 640Mhz. That means I can probably play Crysis with max setting at 1680x1050.
For those of you interested in my reasoning, 1680x1050 is 25% more pixels than 1280x1024 and default clock is 513Mhz. So 640Mhz is 20% more than 513Mhz. That puts me within 5% of my goal. At 60 fps 5% is only a drop of 3 fps, I can handle that.

But it's still at 320mb, no?

Werd, good news. Thanks for the heads up.

so i guess 8800GTS would handle high settings at 1600x1200?
and also i would definitely be having problems with smooth frame rates and game physics because my CPU IS CRAP! 2800+ ... stupid AGP motherboards...

Sounds great! If cevat is "right" my gtx probably will survive ![]()

NooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOoooooo~~~~~~~~~~~~~~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
only at 1280 resolution?
Damn, I'm starting to regret buying a 320 and expecting to play at 1680. Hey, at least I can play on near-max!

its good to know that a 8800gts can handle 1280x1024 on max settings its how well it performs in dx10 i wonder if crysis knows that most persons running the demo on 25.09.07 will first set the settings on dx10 before they even start the game as to see the first impressions for themselves cuz crytek wants to keep the eyecandy for themself. that been said all persons with 8800gtx will finally realize the strength of their cards when they see only a 10fps drop with the move over to dx10...
